How do open-ended rentals work?

Benefits

When customers book long term rentals sometimes they do not know the exact end date of their project and the return date of their rental well in advance. This may be more common for construction related rentals or in other B2B settings.

The open ended rentals feature allows users to place orders without having to specify the rental return date at the time of placing the order:

  • You as a manager can specify which products to accept open ended orders
  • Open ended rentals are available both in Admin and in the Webshop
  • Your customers can place orders and see only price per day information
  • You can manage the order lifecycle (do updates, issue invoices, etc.)

Depending on your business needs, you can also chose to limit open ended rental access to B2B customers only on the webshop and choose if this should be the default webshop behaviour.

Note that open-ended rentals can not be purchased by the user using a payment card in the shop, but that these users have to pay (often invoiced) after the product has been returned, or monthly. If you want your users to rent your products for many weeks/months, pay by card, and the card to be automatically deducted monthly, consider making the product a subscription product instead.
